What Fireplaces & Stoves actually involves

A fireplace or stove installation is more than placing an appliance in a room. The appliance, clearances, hearth, liner or vent system, chimney route, electrical needs, gas work and manufacturer instructions all have to work together. ABC Chimney Solutions can plan and manage the complete installation from the existing structure to the finished system.

Customer-supplied appliances are welcome

ABC Chimney Solutions can install a new or used stove or insert purchased by the homeowner as long as the model, condition, location and venting can be made appropriate for the project. If the homeowner has not chosen an appliance, the team can help narrow the options based on room size, BTU, intended use and available venting route.

Turnkey coordination

When a gas fireplace, blower, outlet or related component requires a qualified gas, electrical, HVAC or plumbing professional, ABC Chimney Solutions can coordinate that scope so the homeowner can receive one organized finished project. The homeowner can also choose to bring a professional of their own.

Permits and finishing

Permit or municipal inspection coordination can be added for an additional fee when required. ABC Chimney Solutions can also complete masonry, hearth, surround and related finish work so the installation does not stop at the appliance connection.

What does ABC Chimney Solutions mean by permits and finishing?

Permit or municipal inspection coordination can be added for an additional fee when required. ABC Chimney Solutions can also complete masonry, hearth, surround and related finish work so the installation does not stop at the appliance connection. Learn more about this service.

Can any fireplace take an insert?

Not automatically. The insert has to fit the firebox and connect to a venting system suitable for that appliance, so ABC Chimney Solutions checks the fireplace dimensions, flue, chimney height and clearances before recommending one. Learn more about this service.

Do I need a liner with an insert or stove?

A full liner connection from the appliance to the top of the chimney is generally recommended, because it gives a controlled venting path of the right size rather than discharging into an oversized masonry flue. ABC Chimney Solutions can tell you which applies to your chimney when it looks at fireplaces & stoves. Learn more about this service.

Can I convert a wood fireplace to gas?

In many cases yes, and it is one of the more common requests. What is possible depends on the existing chimney, the appliance chosen and what the venting requires; ABC Chimney Solutions can coordinate qualified trades for the gas connection. Learn more about this service.

What is the difference between gas logs and a gas insert?

Gas logs sit in an existing fireplace and largely keep its character; an insert is a sealed appliance fitted into the opening and is about getting usable heat out of it. They vent differently and suit different aims. Ask ABC Chimney Solutions about it when you book fireplaces & stoves. Learn more about this service.

Will a wood stove heat my whole house?

That depends on the house, the layout and the appliance. ABC Chimney Solutions would rather size and site a stove for what it can genuinely do than sell one on a claim the building will not support. Learn more about this service.

Can a stove go in a room with no chimney?

Often yes, using a listed chimney system rather than an existing masonry flue, routed through walls, ceilings or the roof as the building allows. ABC Chimney Solutions works to this on every fireplaces & stoves job it takes on. Learn more about this service.

Do you do the hearth and surround as well?

Yes. ABC Chimney Solutions can build the hearth protection, the surround and the finish work around an installation, so the appliance and the room are finished together. Learn more about this service.

Is the appliance checked once it is installed?

The appliance and its draft are checked in operation before the job is considered complete, and the homeowner is shown how to use the system. ABC Chimney Solutions can tell you which applies to your chimney when it looks at fireplaces & stoves. Learn more about this service.

What Homeowners Say

Reviews from the towns we work in

Eight of the several thousand chimneys we have swept, lined and rebuilt across Connecticut.

The inspection found a cracked clay liner two other companies had missed. Relined in stainless the following week and the smoke coming back into the room stopped dead.
Sarah MitchellHomeowner · West Hartford, CT
Open fire had not been swept in six years. They pulled out a shocking amount of creosote, sheeted the whole hearth, and left the room spotless.
Michael TurnerHomeowner · New Haven, CT
Damp was coming through the chimney breast for two winters. They traced it to a failed crown, recast it and waterproofed the brickwork — bone dry since.
Elena RossiHomeowner · Stamford, CT
Flashing had lifted and the damper had seized shut. Both repaired in one visit, and they showed me the before and after photos on the roof.

Full stack rebuild above the roofline on a 1920s house. They matched the original brick and mortar so closely the neighbors asked who did our repointing.
Priya RamanHomeowner · Greenwich, CT
Booked the sweep on Monday, done Tuesday. The photographs and written flue report are more thorough than the survey we paid for when we bought the place.
Tom AlvarezHomeowner · Fairfield, CT
Our wood stove never drew properly. They worked out the flue was oversized for the appliance, fitted an insulated liner, and it lights first time now.
Grace OkaforHomeowner · Simsbury, CT
Needed the chimney looked at fast for a house sale. On the roof the next morning, and I had a clear answer and a price the same afternoon.
